The Walking Dead: 10 Times Rick Was Really The Villain

7. Clear (Season 3) – Not Helping The Hitchhiker

The Walking Dead Rick

Leaving that hapless hitchhiker aka Orange Backpack Guy stranded on the side of the road while he, Carl, and Michonne were on a supply run was another early indication of just how ruthless Rick Grimes could be.

To be fair, he was in the midst of his (first) Crazy Rick phase and still reeling from the Governor’s first attack on the prison. Being wary of a total stranger was completely understandable and Rick had no way of knowing whether Orange Backpack Guy was good or bad.

But the poor man was clearly desperate. He was begging them to stop, pleading with them to help him. Without the help of perfect strangers, Rick himself wouldn’t have got to where he was at that point with such comforts as a brand-new Hyundai Tucson and the relatively safe haven of the prison. When the tables were turned, however, he wasn’t so keen to return the favour.

From the hitchhiker’s point of view, Rick must’ve have certainly seemed like a villain that day especially later on in his death throes as he was getting devoured by walkers. And however useful its contents were, stopping to pick up the dead hitchhiker’s backpack was pretty callous and showed our glorious leader Rick Grimes could be cold as ice when he wanted to.
