The Walking Dead: 10 Times Rick Was Really The Villain

3. Still Gotta Mean Something (Season 8) – Killing Repentant Saviours After Giving Them His Word

The Walking Dead Rick
AMC

While out hunting down Hilltop’s escaped Saviour prisoners, Rick and Morgan were themselves accosted and knocked out by their prey and awoke tied up in some old abandoned dive bar. Rick bargains with the Saviours offering them a place in his community if they untie him and Morgan and informs them they need help fighting off an approaching zombie horde regardless.

The more reasonable amongst the Saviours (i.e. everybody but that idiot Jared) seem convinced by Rick and release them just as the walkers descend. For a few moments, they’re fighting together with one Saviour named Reilly even shooting down a walker that’s about to bite Rick.

But then Rick reneges on his word as he and Morgan pick off the repentant Saviours one by one with Rick quite literally back-stabbing his rescuer by whacking him in the back with a hatchet. Later, as the poor guy is bleeding out and partially devoured by walkers he manages to splutter out a few words reminding Rick he promised them asylum to which Rick hisses “I lied” before shooting him in the head.

Going against his word was one thing but killing a man who had just saved his life in cold blood? That’s some duplicitous, villainous s**t right there.
