The Walking Dead: 11 Major Moments From The Comics We Still Need To See
10. The Coup To Kill Maggie
In the show, Maggie effectively became the leader of the Hilltop last season, but in the comic book she's been in charge of the stronghold for years.
Her journey to become the figurehead of the settlement wasn't without its speed-bumps however, and for a while it looked as though some of the Hilltop's residents were going to succeed in a coup attempt to murder their new leader.
Led by the ever-slimy Gregory, the insurgents plan to overthrow Maggie by poisoning her and taking control for themselves, not worrying about the fury that would be brought down on them if Rick was to ever find out.
Fortunately it takes more than a couple of greaseballs to take down Maggie Greene, and she puts a stop to the coup before it's in full swing. Knowing she needs to set a precedent to stop any future challenges to her leadership, Maggie publicly hangs Gregory to make an example of him, even if the brutality of the situation doesn't exactly sit quite right with her.
So far we haven't really seen many of the other residents living at the Hilltop in the show, but if Gregory starts getting scenes with them in season 8, you can probably guess what he'll be building towards. Unless Simon puts a stop to him first, anyway.
