The Walking Dead: 12 Best Cult Heroes
1. Daryl
Despite all of the great material that The Walking Dead has mined from the comics, the breakout star of the show was actually an original creation. Daryl started off as just being the younger brother of Merle, a similarly uneducated redneck type who liked to solve problems with his fists, and hadn’t been washed since before the dead started rising.
He’s been fleshed out far more since then though, becoming one of the most complex characters on the show, and the ultimate fan-favourite. From taking a person interest in finding Sophia, risking his life in the process, it’s been clear there was a lot more to him than his brother.
He may often appear as the lone-wolf of the series, but he’s incredibly selfless and would risk his life for most of his companions, especially the likes of Carol and Beth, with whom he forms an extremely strong friendship.
He’s one of the most respected members of the group, and with good reason. Aside from his surprisingly caring nature, he’s shown to be quite a rational person who can make sensible decisions for the benefit of everyone.
Oh, and there’s the fact that he is the most bad-ass guy on the show to date, especially with his trusty crossbow in hand. If there is one person you want to be with in a zombie apocalypse, it’s Daryl Dixon.
