The Walking Dead: 15 Best Episodes

1. The Grove - S4 E14

Its importance to the entire plot of The Walking Dead may not be as crucial as other episodes, but when it boils down to one episode, The Grove is a masterpiece, and a true embodiment of how horrifying the show can be. After the group splintered from the prison, fans preferred some groups over others. Carol, Tyreese, baby Judith, and the young sisters Lizzie and Mika weren't favoured as highly as other collections wandering through the Georgia forests, yet the writer's were superb in nailing their storyline. The theme of innocence is palpable and Lizzie is a child who is being warped by the death around her. Brighton Sharbino (Lizzie) plays her part eerily well, while Kyla Kenedy did an admirable job at portraying the sweet, steadfast Mika. Unfortunately, it all becomes too much for Lizzie who begins to interact and see beauty in the walkers. She ultimately ends up killing little Mika in order for her to come back as a walker, which was incredibly shocking, but after deciding she wasn't safe to have around Judith, Carol uttered now-infamous words to Lizzie: "Just look at the flowers," before shooting her. Distressing, uncomfortable, unenjoyable, but an incredible piece of television. There's also got to be a special mention to Melissa McBride and Chad L. Coleman for their performances as Carol and Tyreese, not only with the kids, but in handling their own sub-plot so well, with Carol still holding back her confession to killing Tyreese's girlfriend Karen, while he speaks of his torment surrounding her death. Let's hope Season 6 can add some more episodes to this list when it returns later in the year.
