12. Pretty Much Dead Already - S2 E7

The Walking Dead mid-season finales are generally sensational television, and have often overshadowed the actual season finales, with Pretty Much Dead Already wrapping up one of the key storylines from the first half of Season 2. Rick is desperate to stay in the relative security of the farm after finding out Lori is pregnant, though Hershel's secret barn full of wakers is exposed, and Shane snaps. He guns down one of the captured walkers after being sent out to retrieve them from a swamp, before unbolting the barn and slaughtering them all. When the dust settles, Carol's young daughter Sophia, missing for several episodes, shuffles out of the barn. So much effort was ploughed into her finding her, all the while she had been killed and lingered in the barn as a walker. Carol's horror is mirrored by the group and Rick did what had to be done.
