The Walking Dead: 15 Most Shocking Moments

After 10 years, TWD is no less shocking.

The Walking Dead Michonne
AMC

The Walking Dead has never hidden from its ability to be morbid, gruesome, and heart-wrenching. However, the struggles of the survivors in the show has seen some moments stand out from the rest significantly.

The ability to continuously up the ante in terms of stakes, threat, and shock factor is a skill that Walking Dead has managed to continuously improve over the course of its 10 seasons, and, as new problems arise, the bar will only get higher, as the writers continue to develop a world where truly nobody is safe - which is clearly made evident by the fact that most of the original cast members are no longer present.

Some of these scenes are extremely emotional, some are out of the blue, and some are an actual relief. Let's glance backwards into the TV show's lore, and reveal which scenes are the ones that shocked us the most.

It should come as no surprise that there will be blood, guts, gore, death, and all things morbid in this list, and maybe the scariest thing of all - spoilers. You've been warned.

15. Sophia Walks Out Of The Barn (Season 2)

The Walking Dead Michonne
AMC

After her separation from the group due to a herd moving through the highway, Sophia (Madison Lintz) was the focus of Season 2's first part as they quested to find her.

The young girl was chased by walkers into a marshy area in the first episode, where Rick (Andrew Lincoln) comes to her rescue. He instructs her to hide in what looks like a beaver dam while he leads them away, then tells her to run back to the highway. She never made it back to the group.

However, Shane (Jon Bernthal) soon discovers that Hershel's (Scott Wilson) barn is full of walkers, which he'd been keeping in case a cure came around, and opens it to eliminate the dead trapped there. The zombified Sophia makes her way out of the barn, which causes Carol to collapse to the floor, and Rick stepping up to put down the unfortunate child.

This did establish early on that kids were not safe in the apocalypse, and although she isn't the first reanimated child shown, she was the first that made an impact.
