The Walking Dead: 15 Most Shocking Moments
4. Carl's Death (Season 8)
Carl was a very polarising character among fans and critics.
On one hand, throughout the early seasons, he appeared to be bratty and disobedient, the latter of which resulted in the death of Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) in Season 2. On the other hand, he was someone who tanked being shot twice, once in the stomach, and once in the eye, and he continued to be a strong character who managed to have some kills under his belt. He wasn't afraid to go out and fight if it was necessary. This, however, is what lead him to his demise.
Whilst helping a lone Siddiq in the woods, Carl is bitten by a walker, but it's revealed to the audience later on that it happened, and later still to Rick and Michonne.
His death was an emotional one, and he ends it himself so as to not turn. Rick's last few words were nothing but apologies, and it is very depressing watching another character from the start bite the dust.
This death in particular did cause a lot of controversy, many people lashing out at the showrunner, and calling it a power-play. Also, with the fact that Chandler Riggs was made aware not long before it occurred, it screamed of a last-minute decision.
