The Walking Dead: 5 Spin-Offs That Could Work But Probably Wouldn’t

4. Guillermo And His "Gang"

Guillermo Walking Dead Edited 1 In the season one episode, "Vatos" Rick and his merry band of zombie chow bump into what appears to be an EXTREMELY stereotypical Latino gang; The Vatos. As the story unfolds, it is revealed that Guillermo and the Vatos aren't a gang at all. "G" was actually a custodian at a nursing home and his gang was made up of male nurses and family members of the elderly patients. Rick and the Vatos part on friendly terms. The season 2 episode, "What Lies Ahead," originally would have revealed the final fate of the Vatos, with Rick discovering that the nursing home had been overrun. This scene was apparently shot, but cut with footage used in the season 2 trailer. With their deaths not officially canon, Guillermo and the Vatos could be resurrected and provide another look at the zombie apocalypse. Unable to move the patients in their care, the heroes of this spin-off would have to deal with the reality of being surrounded on all sides, the temptation to ditch their patients and overcoming dwindling supplies of food and medicine. Pretending to be a gang to protect their "turf" and keep the living human predators away would have its consequences. Are these men really killers, could they kill the living to survive? The story ideas are there, it's just a matter of getting it on the screen! Would the novelty of a different cast and a less mobile storyline keep viewer's interest? Without excellent writing and creative storytelling, this show could easily run out of steam.
