That's not to say that there won't be some payoff to further Terminus flashbacks. Rick and Co. may have made their escape from the compound, but the destruction in their wake left a few too many survivors to guarantee a clean getaway in the long run. As these characters should have learned from their experiences with the Governor, half measures in the zombie apocalypse have very deadly consequences. With the inclusion of Chekhov's machete and Michonne's lost katana, a further clash between the escapees and the Termites is inevitable... and unnecessary. To his credit, Rick is initially all for gathering his weapons and storming back to Terminus to finish the job, and he might have just ignored his companions' protests and returned on his own if Carol hadn't made her surprise appearance. Of course, the argument made by most of the others that Terminus was already breached and burning carried some weight, and even best bro Daryl wasn't exactly stuffing his pockets with ammunition and stretching for the jaunt back, but the loss of the prison and Hershel's decapitation were not so long in the past that they would have forgotten what happens when enemies develop a thirst for vengeance and have nothing left to lose. At least Daryl and Michonne tried to track the Governor in Season 4; the gravity that we'll feel of the tragedies likely to befall the survivors this time will be offset by the shortsightedness. At least they won't be able to blame Rick this time.
Fiction buff and writer. If it's on Netflix, it's probably in my queue. I've bought DVDs for the special features and usually claim that the book is better than the movie or show (and can provide examples). I've never met a TV show that I won't marathon. Follow on Twitter @lah9891 .
