The Walking Dead: 6 Things "What Happened And What's Going On" Got Right (And 4 It Didn't)

3. Everyone Being Badass

And honestly, how great is it seeing the group being so together? Your average zombie story takes place over the course of one ninety-minute film, where the survivors will never really advance past struggling to get by. The cast of characters in The Walking Dead have been through enough for cutting down zombies to have practically become second nature. What's pretty brave for a major cable TV show, where set pieces are important and special effects don't come cheap or easy, is that dispatching walkers is an action that happens without consequence. It's just like a reflex, something happening in the background whilst the real action happens elsewhere. Somehow it's even more badass to see Rick or Michonne chopping up the undead with the flick of a wrist, barely even paying attention to them, like they're nothing more than nuisances, than to have it all shot as a cool action sequence. Plus that's really not what the show is about.
