The Walking Dead: 7 Things "The Distance" Got Right (And 3 It Didn't)

5. Michonne Takes The Lead

More and more, it looks like Michonne is poised to snatch the leadership position right from under Rick's nose. Or at least, it looks like Danai Gurira is poised to snatch the leading role from right under Andrew Lincoln's nose, and not a moment too soon. Lincoln has done fantastic work with the character's slow evolution, but it very much feels like he might be coming to the end of that cycle. Rick has been increasingly marginalised in The Walking Dead. Nominally he's still the leader, the guy who makes all the choices, but it's barely his story any more. If anything, Carl has more to do with the future of the show than his dad. In the meantime, though, it looks like Michonne might take the lead. She certainly does throughout this episode, frequently talking Rick down from metaphorical ledges as he let his suspicions get the worst of him. She's been doing that a lot in the fifth season, and it's been a joy to behold. Ever since her introduction Michonne has been one of the most enigmatic characters, and Gurria is a great actor.
