The Walking Dead: 7 Things "The Distance" Got Right (And 3 It Didn't)

6. Wait, Jokes?

Along with fresh hope that humanity hasn't totally gone to hell in a handcart (or the new Hyundai Handcart SUV, perhaps), personality and diversity, Aaron brought something else that The Rick Grimes Adventure Scouts have been sorely missing ever since they began their cross-country jaunt: laughter. The Walking Dead has never exactly been the cheeriest of shows. But moments of levity work wonders in otherwise serious-minded shows like Breaking Bad and The Wire, and they wore more than welcome in €œThe Distance€. Aaron was generally a character of the sort the show hasn't seen yet, displaying some genuine wit and humour outside of the sort of half-baked action hero one-liners that have occasionally been barked in the heat of battle, or else gallows humour that manages a weak smile at best. Aaron's presence looks to be already having an effect on the rest of the cast, too, as Daryl voted to go along with this mysterious stranger because whatever shelter he was offering must be better than where the group were currently holed up in. In fact, €œI dunno, man. This barn smells like horses**t,€ might've been his only big line this week. And it was a doozy.
