The Walking Dead: 9 Things "Conquer" Got Right (And 1 It Didn't)

7. The Further Adventures Of Daryl And Aaron

Daryl Dixon remains an enigma. What is his motivation? What's his sexuality? Why does he eat spaghetti like that? Has he washed yet? Teaming him up with Aaron in the back half of the fifth season has been interesting, pushing the redneck hunter supposedly out of his comfort zone...but really, Daryl and Aaron is a pairing that makes even more sense that Daryl and Carol. Part of that is the shipper's reading of Daryl as totally gay, and putting him together with the show's first openly gay character seems like a deliberate and knowing choice. Unfortunately, the moment where it looked like they might actually lock lips was spoilt by Morgan showing up and saving their lives, like that running jokes in Ant And Dec's Friends parody. Part of it is that their subplot in this episode was the culmination of their fun trip throughout the wilderness surrounding Alexandria. Besides being a Dawn Of The Dead homage, the whole bit with them getting caught in that trap was a really rad idea and plot twist, one of the more exciting fake-outs in the finale (it really seemed they might die for a moment), and the two of them together really just work.
