Shane is by far one of the most underrated villains on the show, mostly because he started off as a good guy, he was a police officer, and he was Rick Grime's BFF.

Almost as quick as the dead turn into walkers, Shane went from a friendly handsome man to a psycho schemer who suddenly started killing people. The worst thing? Nobody saw it coming, even when it was staring us right in the face from the very beginning.

Think about it? Shane's first shady move was trying to move in on Lori (Rick's wife) after thinking Rick was dead. Next, he then tries to take over fatherly duty with Rick's son, Carl. When Rick returns, Shane's fantasy suddenly comes crashing down, causing him to become insanely jealous when Rick is welcomed back by his family. Shane is so tormented that he even attempts to lure Rick to his death.

Shane is a great bad guy because he isn't some jacked-up supervillain with a God-complex, he's a normal real guy who ended up dead due to human emotions rather than a lack of law and order.
