The Walking Dead: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best
6. Season Eleven
The Walking Dead's long-awaited final season is a messy, rewarding instalment to the show's legacy. Elongated to twenty-four episodes, the series' swan song pits its heroes against the Commonwealth, and aims to give them some kind of peace.
Tackling themes of oppression and human spirit with more depth than ever before, the season throws its characters into disarray, scattering them like playing pieces onto a battlefield larger than they've ever faced. Forced to confront their pasts, the likes of Daryl, Maggie, Carol and Negan have never seemed so cruelly outnumbered.
This largeness has its benefits, especially when it gives its characters time to deal with the horror of their new war, and the way it brings everyone together into a fight that feels truly final leads to a mass amount of touching character farewells, haunting cliffhangers, and genuine scares.
There are issues -- disjointed pacing, a surprisingly low body count, and low stake gunfights amongst them -- but these flaws quickly pale in comparison to the season's emotional punch. It doesn't tick all the boxes (it was never going to), but season eleven remains a worthy capper to The Walking Dead's staggering journey.
