The Walking Dead: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best

5. Season Six

The Walking Dead
AMC

The Walking Dead's most underrated chapter, the stunning first half of the sixth season signalled the end of the show's golden age, but fell apart as it numbly crawled toward to the Survivors' poorly teased clash with Negan and the Saviors.

Initially dealing with two crushing outside threats faced by an overhauled Alexandria -- a monster walker horde and the animalistic Wolves -- season six gets off to a powerful start, forcing Rick into a position of power whilst the community struggles to band together to secure its future.

Blending thrilling action with the quiet character development of the central group, the way season six builds to Alexandria's final stand against the walkers is astounding, and the battle itself is arguably the show's finest moment. In its wake, though, the season starts to falter.

Though the Rick/Daryl road-trip episode The Next World brings some effective comedy and worldbuilding into the mix, the rest of the season lurches as it sets up the next chapter. It doesn't take away from the season's early highs, but it's still an oddly disappointing end.
