The Walking Dead: Everything You Need To Know About The Whisperers

4. They're The New Primary Antagonists - Just Like The Comics

The Walking Dead Whisperers

Six episodes in and, strangely for The Walking Dead, there hasn't really been a true villain, at least not in the sense we've come to expect from the likes of Negan and the Governor. The focus was more on the fractured relationships between the survivors, and on setting up Rick's exit, but now the time jump has occurred there's room for a new Big Bad.

While they've only just arrived on the scene, that's a role the Whisperers will fill on screen, just like they do on the page. In the comics they arrive at a similar time, coming just after the aftermath of All Out War (and its time jump, although the show's latest is significantly bigger), before lasting for just over 40 issues all told, and being one of the biggest threats the survivors have ever faced, not to mention the most unique.

The signs of that are already there in their arrival as they move with the herd, and with the mid-season finale in just a couple of weeks, we can expect something big to happen sooner rather than later to really announce them.

MAJOR comics spoilers from this point onwards.
