The Walking Dead Mid-Season Premiere: 2 Ups & 4 Downs From ‘Adaptation’
2. Even In Death, Jesus Is Neglected
While viewers have long accepted the possibility of main characters winding up dead, the reason that Jesus' demise hit a nerve with so many people is because of how much the show had neglected him in the past. In the comics, Jesus is a badass but, in spite of this, the television series gave Tom Payne next to nothing to do. His fighting abilities were barely explored, we didn't know an awful lot about him, which is a shame given that he was undoubtedly the best LGBTQ+ character the show had.
You'd think because Jesus had been so neglected in life, the writers' would have at least given him a proper send-off, but unfortunately this isn't the case either. It's true that Adaptation sees the people of Hilltop honor their fallen friend, but these scenes are given next to no screen-time (more on that later).
It's a real shame that the show's iteration of Jesus was more of a footnote in this story, rather than a key player - especially because Tom Payne was magnificent in his portrayal of the loveable marital artist.
