The Walking Dead Season 11 Review - 6 Ups & 2 Downs From "Variant"
1. Up - Aaron Tells Lydia About Eric
This week's episode may have focussed heavily on Eugene, but he was not the only one to have his own standout moment. Among the cast of characters, Aaron had an unexpectedly emotional scene.
While on the lookout for Walkers as Elijah and Jerry are resting, Lydia tells Aaron about a moment of guilt and feelings she had for Henry just before Elijah tried to kiss her which created their awkward encounter. Aaron then tells her the story of how he met Eric, his husband who unfortunately died during Alexandria's battle with the Saviors in the eighth season.
The former recruiter of Alexandria hasn't been given a lot of emotional scenes in recent episodes, but this was a welcome change of pace from the many action-packed and dramatic scenarios that he has been through since running from Lance and his soldiers. He may be known recently as the adoptive father of Gracie, but it was great to be reminded of the life Aaron had before their current predicament.
Ross Marquand has always seemed to give his character some of the show's standout moments through his performance, and despite the brief and subtle scene, he shows off just why he was a standout addition to the cast after all these years.
