The Walking Dead Season 11 Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs From "Acheron Part 1 & 2"

8. Some Characters Feel Unfairly Sidelined

The Walking Dead Season 11
AMC

At this point in the show, The Walking Dead really has more characters than ever before, and that's causing some logistical problems about which ones will get to take centre stage.

In Acheron, a group of Alexandrians led by Maggie and Daryl decide to move into the city to find food and supplies in Maggie's old hideout, the Meridian, and they rally together a team of willing volunteers who want to help.

This leads to a scene where the main community council vote on whether they want to go or not, and though many are open to it, Carol - never one to turn her back on a mission deemed "suicidal" - refuses to tag along. This is both maddeningly out of character, and leaves her cut from the remainder of the two-part premiere.

Judith and Lydia also briefly turn up, but get no lines or major moments to shine, and Jerry, who's recently been upgraded to main cast status, also comes and goes in a flash.

The episode works brilliantly well with the characters it focusses on, but considering it's the first episode it's really disappointing more key players don't get time to shine.
