The Walking Dead Season 11 Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs From "Acheron Part 1 & 2"

6. It Wastes No Time

The Walking Dead Season 11
AMC

Despite its flaws, Acheron gets off to a strong start thanks to its silent, action-packed cold open, which puts a large group of survivors in a precarious position whilst searching for rations in an old, walker-infested building.

From there, the episode quickly sets up the next mission and puts all its cards on the table. The friction between Maggie and Negan takes centre stage with incredible results, whilst Eugene and company are forced to endure the Commonwealth's horribly intrusive interrogation techniques with a sequence that's as darkly comical as it is unsettling.

The character interactions long-time fans have been waiting to see can almost all be found here, and the episode holds nothing back when confronting the antagonism between the core players.

It might be low on major plot development and big bads, but it makes sure to keep the relationships of the main characters front and centre, leading to some striking emotional pay-offs.
