The Walking Dead Season 6: 10 Things The Mid-Season Premiere Got Right

Pretty much everything...

Have you recovered yet? The Walking Dead is back with a blood-soaked, gore-drenched, red paint-overloaded bang. I'm already loving the direction the season appears to be heading, while inwardly seething over a couple of crazy minutes in Alexandria. Jessie though. JESSIE is gone. Out of all the fringe characters in the show, they killed the one whose death would crush Rick the most. Savages. But I digress. On the whole, the episode was a stellar mid-season premiere from The Walking Dead and has set up a frantic scenario to be played out over the next couple of months. The 'larger world' line has been bandied around alongside the show in recent weeks, and that whole idea looks set to breathe fresh air into the series, but before we get ahead of ourselves, here are 10 things that the mid-season premiere got absolutely right.

10. The Scale

Right from the very beginning, the sense of scale is palpable. I couldn't praise the practical effects team highly enough throughout the first half of the season, with the very real walkers adding a huge dose of authenticity to the show and everything in it. Once again the sheer number of walkers was ramped up to staggering levels and they were all gruesomely gorgeous. Showing the slow-mo movements of the undead ghosting through the Alexandria streets demonstrated the enormity of the task ahead for the group, and certainly provided the 'HOW are they getting out of this one?!' factor.
