In 1993, 1st Battalion 9th Marines of the US Marine Corps launched 'Operation Restore Hope' following the Battle Of Mogadishu. But how does that even slightly relate to show? Well, for starters, Daryl and Co. were on a mission to quite literally restore hope and the military unit's official nickname was indeed 'The Walking Dead'. It even featured on their insignia. It may well be coincidental that the show chose the number, but it's a cool detail to see.
