The Walking Dead Season 7: 4 Ups & 5 Downs From 'Service'

1. It Doesn't Justify The Extra Running Time

Without adverts, Service clocks in at around 60 minutes, making it a quarter-of-an-hour longer than your typical Walking Dead episode.

When shows go with a longer run time, there's usually a good reason: a season finale, a big death, a wedding; basically, any major event. But there are no major events here, and nothing else - no deep character exploration, no covering of multiple plot threads - to justify the extra time.

The episode would've easily fit into a standard running time, and the choice of expansion doesn't make sense, nor does it help the episode. Had it been a bit shorter, then perhaps things would've felt tighter - a better pace throughout, and less of the elements that dragged it down.

Instead it let things go on and on, going over the same ground. The episode wasn't bad, but at times it did feel boring, and the extra run time had a lot to do with that.
