The Walking Dead Season 7: 5 Ups And 3 Downs From 'Go Getters'

3. Simon Says

Did Steven Ogg just out-Negan Jeffrey Dean Morgan?

Of course that's overly simplistic, because Ogg's Simon only has to be a henchman and sideshow rather than the real deal, but he nonetheless gives a wonderful performance as Negan-lite here.

Although Simon has been shown a few times before now, and presented as Negan's right-hand man, this is the first time we really get to see him in meaningful action - and Ogg more than grasps the opportunity.

It's interesting, because Simon is his own character, but also quite clearly mimicking the behaviour of Negan too, which says a lot about the worship the Saviours have of him. Ogg does this really well though; putting on a smiling facade, but there's a real sense of danger and him being unhinged here. It's good to have a break from Negan, and Simon is serving the same function, but manages to make it feel fresh.
