The Walking Dead Season 7: 5 Ups And 3 Downs From 'Go Getters'

Downs...

3. Carl And Enid's Romance

The Walking Dead Enid
Gene Page/AMC

At the outset of the episode, Carl is done looking out for Enid, and stands aside as she heads to Hilltop on her own. Fast forward half-an-hour, and TV's most angsty teenagers are enjoying their first kiss.

It's fairly predictable, though that's not why it's a bad thing. It's more that the journey from A-to-B doesn't really work. Sure, I guess the rollerblading is kinda cute, but it comes after the pair walk down a road 10-feet apart. Which comes after Carl manages to do a Lori and crash a car on an almost deserted road (ok, he was hitting the walker, but still). There's some really clunky dialogue here, in particular Carl's 'just going for a drive' line. Obviously that's not what he's doing, and we aren't meant to believe it... except that Enid apparently does?!

There's not yet an apparent chemistry between these two, and it all feels a bit forced at the moment. It could potentially make for some nice character beats further down the line, but it doesn't really work for me here.
