Downs...

2. It Halted The Recent Momentum

The Walking Dead lumbered around in the first half of Season 7, moving from location-to-location one episode at a time. The pacing was glacial, with little of note or excitement coming, and it made for a much weaker run overall.

Since returning, it's made a strength of breaking up its storylines, intercutting them to quicken the pace and further develop the narrative. It's done some solid build-up work, pushing us along in the fightback against Negan.

This episode has a lot of enjoyable parts, but ultimately feels like less than the sum of them. It spends all of its time at the Sanctuary, focused on Dwight and Eugene, which means it feels like a step backwards in the grand scheme of things. The show had a fair bit of momentum, with all the various groups starting to come together, but this episode has stalled it a bit.
