The Walking Dead Season 7: 6 Ups And 3 Downs From 'The Well'

5. Morgan The Teacher

Few characters on The Walking Dead have been on a journey like Morgan has. After a lengthy break from Rick and co., he returned a completely changed man. With a new way of living - which we saw the development of during his own flashback episode last year - and a strict code to adhere to, he became markedly different to anyone else on the show.

That makes him uniquely placed for the task of training up Benjamin, whose father was one of the Kingdom's greatest fighters (an aptitude his son doesn't share just yet). With Morgan having his own strength and convictions called into question after killing a Saviour, it's interesting to see him take on this role, and respond well to it.

The pair forge a nice rapport from the beginning, and the training evokes Morgan's own (sadly without Tabitha though). Of course, it also paints a huge target on Benjamin, and may as well put him in a redshirt and be done with it. In the meantime it's some very nice work, and gives Morgan a purpose that he probably needs right now. (Also, given how quickly Benjamin seems to pick it up, we can assume Morgan is way better at Aikido than we thought - and he already seemed pretty darn good.)
