The Walking Dead Season 7: 7 Ups & 2 Downs From 'The Cell'

The Cell starts off like no other episode of The Walking Dead, in a manner that's a little confusing (it threw me off at first) but totally enjoyable.

Part of the reason for that is because it doesn't even open on TWD, but an episode of Who's The Boss (the Tony Danza-starring 90s sitcom), accompanied by The Jam's Town Called Malice.

Eventually we settle on Dwight, but it's still very weird. It plays out more like a sitcom opening, showing him engaging in some leisure time, taking some bread, making a sandwich. All very WTF, especially the juxtaposition of him carefully constructing his meal while a guy gets stripped and beaten in front of him. It's almost like any other mundane, relatively happy life - and then the music cuts, and the scene jumps to a group of walkers.

It's another example, coming after last week, of The Walking Dead embracing its fun, weird side, and somehow it manages to work as an intro to this episode, nicely setting up what's to come for Dwight.
