The Walking Dead Season 7 Premiere: 4 Ups & 6 Downs From 'The Day Will Come When You Won't Be'

3. It Pushes Maggie's Development

If these deaths - and in particular Glenn's, since he's the character we were more attached to - are going to have any major impact on any these characters and propel their storylines forward, then the most likely candidate is Maggie.

That's fairly obvious, since she's Glenn's wife and is carrying his child. But, as I wrote in my predictions article, this should have a positive (if that's the right word in this context) impact on her. She sees herself as the one to blame for it, and looks set to drive the quest for revenge against Negan.

Lauren Cohan is great towards the end of this episode, and it's through her performance you feel the grief of Glenn's death. However, while she breaks down in tears, she's far from broken by this. She's more determined than ever to make it to Hilltop, and have the baby. Coupled with her push towards leadership last year, that's set to continue now.

Obviously this may not happen, and mean this retrospectively isn't an 'up', but right now - based on Cohan's performance and what it's started setting up - should mean we get something good out of these deaths.
