The Walking Dead Season 7 Premiere: 4 Ups & 6 Downs From 'The Day Will Come When You Won't Be'

1. Jeffrey Dean Morgan

The Walking Dead Negan
Gene Page/AMC

Negan, so far, is not a great character. He's a psychopath, a sadist, and some of his jokes are absolutely awful (read: vampire bat" - yes it's deliberate, but come on). We haven't really seen any different side to him outside of this, albeit it's only been one episode. If the show wants him to work as a villain over multiple seasons, which is surely the plan, a few more shades will need to be written in.

But that's all forgivable right now, because of how good Jeffrey Dean Morgan is with what he's been given. Again, he'll be responsible too for bringing more to Negan, but at the moment he's having the time of his life in the role.

Negan is an absolute bastard, a complete monster, and Morgan is totally revelling in the role. In a show where everyone and everything is usually pretty grim, Morgan's delight and delivery becomes really quite enjoyable to watch. Well, until he starts smashing heads to the point an eyeball is popping out, anyway.
