The Walking Dead Season 7 Premiere: 4 Ups & 6 Downs From 'The Day Will Come When You Won't Be'

6. The Pointless Montages And Van Trip
I found the completely broken Rick an interested development. However, what I didn't need to see was all the filler of getting to that point, as if the deaths - really f**king horrible, brutal, gory deaths at that - right in front of his face weren't enough.
It all seemed rather pointless, and kinda dumb. Did we need all those montages, given equal weight, as if we're supposed to believe a) the likes of Eugene and Rosita mean as much to Rick as Daryl or Michonne, and b) the show would seriously consider killing those guys off for this particular death? Because if so, then they really do think their audience is stupid.
Similarly, the entire road trip taken by Rick and Negan didn't make much sense. Negan clearly wants to keep Rick alive (or rather, the show needs him to want to keep Rick alive, because he's the lead character), so he chucks him out to the walkers, but then guns them down. He goes to great lengths to put his life in danger, and then similar lengths to save him. It all just felt rather pointless.
