The Walking Dead Season 7 Premiere: 4 Ups & 6 Downs From 'The Day Will Come When You Won't Be'

4. Predictability

Hands up if you said Abraham would die? Hands up if you said Glenn?

Ok, that's a lot of hands. Hands up those who said both?

Well done on guessing it right - I can't pat myself on the back too much, since most people said at least one of those two, and a few others predicted the double kill. However, that in itself creates a problem. The second death goes some way to subverting a lot of people's expectations (which as mentioned, is a good thing, especially if you weren't expecting a second death), but the fact remains these two were by far the most likely contenders to meet Lucille.

In fairness, I expected it to play out slightly differently: I thought we'd get Abraham's death at the very beginning of the episode, and then Glenn's right at the end, when everyone thought it was safe. But still, Abraham, Glenn, it was kinda predictable. True, that's better than killing off Aaron/Eugene/Rosita/Sasha, but not good enough when they've been building towards this for six months (which only increased the predictability).

Had they not done the cliffhanger, and killed the pair of them in the Season 6 finale, maybe it would've been much more shocking; with less time to think and analyse who might die, there'd be more of an element of surprise. The Walking Dead likes you to think anyone could and eventually will die, but this again shows that's not really the case.
