The Walking Dead Season 8: 4 Ups And 3 Downs From 'The King, The Widow, And Rick'

3. Jesus' Moralising

The Walking Dead Saviours
Gene Page/AMC

Jesus, following in the footsteps of Carol and Morgan, has become the latest hero to develop a no-kill policy, but the trick isn't working as well as it has done in the past. Part of that is because we've already seen it done, ironically, to death, but it's also come on a little too suddenly and before we've had a serious amount of time with the character.

If it's worked before, it's because he had Morgan to play off, but without him around Jesus' attempts at keeping the Saviours alive - and feeding them from the Hilltop's own stores - are harder to swallow. It does allow Maggie to show some strong leadership, but Jesus' moralising feels empty and unearned, and it's hard to see exactly what they're trying to achieve with a character who should be much more important and entertaining to watch.
