The Walking Dead Season 8: 4 Ups And 4 Downs From 'Monsters'

Downs...

4. The Action

Another episode, another bucketload of bullets. Greg Nicotero is skilled when it comes to walkers, but he's not the series' best action director outside of that, and it can mean the scenes sometimes lack a bit of a punch (not a problem exclusive to him though, as it was the same case last week too).

A few of the smaller moments in Monsters work, but the bigger scale gunfights once again lack any sort of tension or thrill. Bullets fly with the accuracy of Stormtroopers, it largely just focuses on one person shooting at a time, and they're too frequently intercut meaning the drama can't properly build-up. These are supposed to be the show's most action-packed episodes, but it feels rather listless at present.
