The Walking Dead Season 8: 4 Ups And 4 Downs From 'Monsters'

3. Eric's Dragged Out Death

After suffering a wound at the end of The Damned, it looked like Eric was exactly that. However, the writers decided it would be better to keep things lingering on a while longer, meaning Eric's death plays out this week instead.

The show tries to give it some emotional impact thanks to Aaron, a character we ostensibly care about (largely because we recognise him and he gets a few lines), but not enough stock has been put in them as a couple of it to really come across.

Making matters worse is that he leaves Eric to die, and doesn't even attempt to treat the wound, and it's not until later that we get an extended sequence showing how upset he is by it all (one marred by Ross Marquand's bad crying face). No one goes after poor walker Eric to put him out of his misery, and few people will even realise he's gone, despite the amount of focus it gets this week.
