The Walking Dead Season 8: 7 Ways To Win Back The Fans
5. More Of Our Favourite Characters
Basically, this means more Daryl. And more Carol. More Daryl and Carol please. More Daryl on his own. More Carol on her own. More Daryl with Carol. Daryl with Carol is ideal, really.
Season Seven witnessed a strange shift in the prominence of characters. Some who had previously been secondary to the plot, such as Sasha, Tara, and Rosita, were given greater spotlight while others thought of as main characters were reduced to supporting roles.
This is one of the reasons why long-standing fans switched off. They were not given much reason to care about Rosita and Tara prior to Season 7, and won’t care now just because they are told to. Sasha went from having the 11th most lines in Season 6 to having the third most in Season 7, to make her feel like a big end-of-series casualty.
The focus should be on the people whose fates in this godforsaken world we are most invested in. Episodes were dedicated to Tara and Richard while Daryl was muted. The late Kingdom henchman had more Season Seven lines (64) than our crossbow-wielding antihero (61). This graphic of who had the most lines shows how writers got the balance all wrong.
Tara (137) had the fourth most of all, and Rosita (124) the sixth most, while Carol, Daryl, Maggie and even Carl were underused. This must be reversed in the upcoming run.
