The Walking Dead Season 8: 8 Things You Might've Missed In Episode 1

6. Just Look At The Flowers

This was another callback, to one of the most memorable yet disturbing scenes in the entire series - when Carol was forced to end the threat of Lizzie in season four’s The Grove.

The flower drawn onto the wall against which Carol and Tara are sitting as they hide from the hoard of walkers is a homage to the famous line “just look at the flowers”, which Carol repeats to the frightened young girl before shooting her in the back of the head.

While it was rightly of complete insignificance to Tara, that Melissa McBride double checked what she had seen was a clear indication that Carol is still haunted by this mercy killing.

Carol’s character arc has been the biggest throughout the show’s run, and for the defining moment of this transformation to be highlighted so subtly was an appropriate homage.
