The Walking Dead Season 8 Finale: Every Dumb Moment, Ranked Bad To Worst
5. Eugene's Betrayal
Over the past season, The Walking Dead has managed to build up Eugene as a surprisingly engaging villain. Once a useless part of Rick's army who couldn't even bring himself to kill a walker on his own, the owner of the worst mullet on television has found purpose as a Saviour, becoming a vital ideas man and the only person capable of manufacturing ammunition.
There was always the hint that whatever affection he had for his old group remained intact deep down, but that small flicker of heroism was seemingly extinguished in the penultimate episode when Daryl and Rosita attempted to bust him out of his confines. With the two still holding a resentment towards the traitor, and even threatening to kill him, Eugene makes a decision to ditch his former friends and return to The Sanctuary, apparently now steadfast in his goal to arm Negan's men.
However, in the finale it was revealed that Rosita and Daryl berating him, pushing him around and even threatening to shoot him in the head, didn't push him totally to the dark side, but was actually the catalyst to make him want to be friends with them again.
It seems completely backward, but that's how it went down; spurred to rejoin his group, Eugene sabotages the bullets and gives Rick the window he needs to finally take down Negan.
