Rick Grimes may no longer be on the show, but the character's presence is still very much being felt. If you remember, Rick dreamed of building a community - or series of communities - that could thrive for years to come. This dream of his remains a driving force for his living friends - a fact that is confirmed via the touching tribute King Ezekiel delivers at the beginning of the episode.

The fair in itself is a celebration of Rick's hard work. All of the pain, loss and torment that the former sheriff endured over the series' nine seasons hasn't been forgotten - despite the fact that, within the show's narrative, it's been over six years since the mainstays' beloved leader met his 'demise'.

What's more, it's in the name of Rick that all of these feuding communities put their differences aside. During the celebrations, they put an end to their bickering and focus on continuing to build a better future together - the same future that Rick envisioned.
