The Walking Dead Season 9: 5 Ups & 0 Downs From 'Scars'

1. Danai Gurira Delivers A Sublime Performance

The Walking Dead Michonne Scars
AMC

Michonne has long been one of TWD's moral compasses - which is a testament of how far the character has come considering the person she was when she first showed up - and, while the writers are partially responsible for this, much of the credit goes to Danai Gurira, who has proven to be one of the best actors on the show, and has done a great job at humanising such a larger-than-life character.

Due to Michonne's feelings about the other communities, Gurira hasn't really had much of an opportunity to show off those incredible acting chops of hers this season - until now, that is. With the upsetting news of the actress' impending departure still fresh, Scars reminds us how much of an asset both Gurira and Michonne are to the AMC series, and how much viewers will miss them when Gurira leaves.

Whether it be the love that Michonne has for her children - and for her friends - or the distress the character feels when mutilating the young children with her samurai sword, Gurira is exceptional in this one. Much like The Grove did for Melissa McBride, Scars demonstrates just how incredible Gurira is at her craft, and stands as a stark reminder of how unfair it is that the AMC series is often overlooked at award ceremonies.
