The Walking Dead Season Finale: 10 Ways It Massively Disappointed

5. Slow Pacing

Honestly this is more a criticism of the final half of the season rather than just the finale. The prison attack episode, which aired back on December 1st, was a thrilling conclusion to the mid-season. While it was hard to see Herschel go, especially in the manner he died, we were given a brutally satisfying conclusion to the Governor's story. When the series returned two months later it felt like the pace slowed to a crawl. The plotlines moved at about the same speed as the titular creatures. I imagine entire episodes focusing on one group of survivors was done to convey the isolation the groups were feeling being separated, but it felt more like they were out of ideas and just coasting for the second half. Daryl and Beth, and the Bob, Sasha and Maggie threads could have been condensed into one episode. Instead they were dragged out over the course of multiple shows leading to the climax feeling so rushed. Decompression is not always a good thing.
