The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Recap: 6 Ups & 4 Downs From "Years"

3. Up: Some Welcome Twists To Keep You Guessing

The Walking Dead The Ones Who Live Years Rick Grimes
AMC

There are many twists squirrelled away throughout "Years," from the subtle to the massive, and for the most part they all have something to do with Rick.

The first big twist is obvious - Rick is an unwilling member of the CRM - but from this the episode launches dozens more bolts from the blue your way. There's the fact the CRM was responsible for the bombing in Atlanta seen in The Walking Dead season one; that Rick has chopped off his own hand during an escape attempt; and a final twist that was years in the making.

That last one won't be spoiled here, because you have to see it for yourself, but rest assured that "Years" ends with such a resounding, welcome moment of shock and hope that, even after everything you've just sat through, you'll still find yourself smiling ear to ear.

There are other twists of note - Okafor's confession, Rick's insurmountable depression - and all of them land in an emotional way. They may be part of an episode slightly overflowing with ideas, but they certainly set up some big things, with effective fan service galore.
