The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Recap: 6 Ups & 4 Downs From "Years"

2. Up: Andrew Lincoln Finds New Depth In An Old Character

The Walking Dead The Ones Who Live Years Rick Grimes
AMC

Shocking absolutely no one, Andrew Lincoln has fallen back into the role of Rick Grimes without fault, and has in fact managed to bring the character more depth than ever before.

Where once there was an unstoppable community leader and family man, there now stands a broken soul lost in a deep depression, desperate to escape a predicament he has no control over. Even more beaten down than when he first faced Negan, Rick's mental anguish is nothing short of tragic to witness.

But Lincoln is too good, too raw and human, to make you want to look away. He still carries Rick's strength and determination, but it's buried under sad eyes and an uncharacteristic - but still very compelling - air of disillusionment and despondence.

After such a long absence, seeing Lincoln slip back into his greatest role is the greatest joy "Years" has to offer, especially as The Ones Who Live actually has so much to add to Rick's story. Since this is only episode one, there should be no doubt he's just getting started.
