The Walking Dead: Why Rick Grimes Has To Die

3. Rick & Michonne's Baby Plans

Rick and Michonne, the two leaders of Alexandria, firmly believe in creating a new, better world for the people who have to grow up in the zombie apocalypse, such as Judith and Hershel, and that may now include their own child too.

In the third episode of Season 9, Warning Signs, Rick suggests that the pair have a baby, which is not only a major step forward for their relationship, but also not the move of a man with leaving on his mind. For that matter, nor is putting all of your time and energy into building a bridge between the communities.

Rick is committed to Michonne, and he's committed to making a brighter tomorrow. It's possible, but implausible, that he'd decide to give that up, but it's much more in keeping with the kind of devastation The Walking Dead became known for if he is killed off now and it's revealed Michonne is pregnant. He already has Judith, although there's a slight out there as she's Shane's (but even then, he's accepted her as his own), and he wouldn't leave one child behind, and certainly not two. This is a big plot point for the series, and there's no logic to introduce it now, two episodes before Rick decides to simply pack his bags.
