The Walking Dead: Why Rick Grimes Has To Die

1. The Character Deserves Closure, And So Do The Fans

The Walking Dead Days Gone Bye
AMC

Through eight (and a bit) seasons, Rick Grimes has been a fighter, a survivor, and a leader. He takes everything this apocalyptic world throws at him and keeps on going, even with a few wobbles, and what's more, tries to do the best by his fellow survivors too.

After all that - after losing his wife, his son, his best friend, and, briefly, his sanity - if Rick is going to go, then he deserves the chance for some eternal peace, and so too do the fans. Andrew Lincoln's departure is going to leave a gaping hole in the series, and if he doesn't die, then there'll always be the question of whether or not he might come back. Rick Grimes wouldn't be the hero, he'd be the spectre hanging over the entire show.

His leaving, regardless of how it happens, is going to be extremely difficult for The Walking Dead to overcome, but at least with his death they can have a clean break and push forward to a future he's tried to create, rather than continuously looking over the shoulder for the day he might come back.

Do you think Rick Grimes should die? Will he? Share your thoughts down in the comments.
