The West Wing Cast: Where Are They Now?

14. Timothy Busfield - Danny Concannon

The West Wing
NBC

Though C.J. Cregg was one of the most vital parts of the West Wing's White House, her staff were barely ever featured (with many only appearing in the somewhat bizarre documentary format episode in season five) and her Press Corps were almost always just faces in the crowd and sources of questions.

One exception was Danny Concannon, who pursued a relationship with her despite the conflict caused by the investigative and critical nature of his work. Notably, he was the source of her goldfish, Gail, whose tank was dressed according to the theme of each episode as an in-joke by production staff.

Danny appeared to have gotten on a train to Mandyville following season two, but Timothy Busfield returned to appear semi-regularly from season four onwards. Known for his appearances in Field of Dreams, Revenge Of The Nerds and Thirtysomething (for which he earned four Emmy nominations and one win), he befriended Sorkin whilst serving as a director on Sports Night, subsequently working with him on Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip as well as The West Wing.

After a brief break at the end of the 2000s, Busfield has regularly appeared in front of and behind the camera on various shows. He filmed a TV movie sequel to Thirtysomething almost 30 years after it went off the air, but this was not picked up, limiting his current workload to ABC legal drama For Life, which recently began its second season.
