The West Wing Cast: Where Are They Now?

If any character was given a horrendously short shrift in the West Wing’s final season, it was Toby Ziegler. After serving as Communications Director for the entirety of the Bartlet administration, he was given a storyline that saw him turn on his employer.

Richard Schiff and viewers alike hated it for how out-of-character it was and Toby wasn’t given any form of send-off in the series finale, not even appearing despite his pardon being a major plot point. Having appeared in just eleven episodes of the season before then, he was essentially relegated from the main cast.

Having appeared in the likes of Speed, Se7en, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Deep Impact, Schiff was firmly established as a supporting actor before the series came along. He followed it with an eclectic range of work, from appearances in British comedies and as a fictionalised version of himself in Entourage through to sharing the screen with Superman in Man Of Steel.

A regular recurring player on a number of television series, Schiff didn’t become part of a main cast again for almost a decade, spending 2 years on Rogue before moving onto ABC’s The Good Doctor, which is currently airing its fourth season.

Recently hospitalised (and thankfully discharged soon after) alongside his wife after contracting Covid-19, Schiff will presumably be limiting his other appearances in the short term.
