The Witcher: Casting Upcoming Characters

6. Avallac’h – James Purefoy

The Witcher Dijkstra
CD Projekt RED/Netflix

Avallac’h is a character that is somehow quite important but also sort of just exists in the books. He is an elven sage with connections to Ciri’s ancestor, Lara Dorren, meaning his historical significance is huge, yet what he actually gets to do in the present is a little more minimal. Maybe that’s slightly too harsh, though he is definitely not the most active player in events.

Like every stereotypical elven character, Avallac’h is knowledgeable, very old and rather superior as a result. So, who better to play him than a man who has built a lot of his career off playing similarly superior rich people?

That doesn’t narrow it down really, does it? In this instance I am referring to James Purefoy. Purefoy does superior well and as he regularly plays those who do not exactly fall into the category of moral paragons, meaning that seeing him push Ciri to do the things he pushes her to do in the books would work (strictly in terms of the performance).

Plus, he looks very much like an authority figure that Geralt would bicker with.
